From / towards the airport: There is car rental and a service of taxi and remises that connects the airport with the city of Punta del Este.
Montevideo (MVD), Carrasco International Airport is located at 11 miles from downtown (35 minutes journey). From / towards the airport: there is a special shuttle that connects the airport with the city, as well as taxis.

BY BOAT
Montevideo, the main international seaport of the country has shipping services to the USA and Europe. There is a Night Ferry from Buenos Aires to Montevideo (the trip lasts 10 hours). There is another High Speed Ferry (called plane because of its speed) which makes the same journey in three hours. You can travel to Buenos Aires via Colonia (100 miles west from Montevideo) from where you can cross to Buenos Aires by ferry in 45 minutes.
The company BuqueBus runs the boats making the trip to Buenos Aires.
BY HIGHWAY
